Our Living OCD Journey was started with one ultimate goal, and that goal was to document what is going on our family, from the good to the bad so I as a parent do not compartmentalize everything that is going on as it was taking a toll on my mental health. I feel that sharing our journey will not only help me but will help other parents that are just starting their journey and feel alone and they have no one else to talk to . Our true journey started with our son was 5 years old, and I know something was wrong. His bahavior was horrible, but it was always triggered and his fits or trantrums would last days, I am not talking the 5 minute tantrum but the 3 long drawn out days of tantrums. We went to numerous mental health professionals who just kept telling me your son is just an active boy. I knew different. We started play therapy, counseling, testing and our family suffered, my relationships suffered. Fast forward seven years, we hit a topping point in Feburary 2023. My son was suffering at school, with grades, peer relationships to where we had to find another counselor. I called places high and low for someone that would take my child. It took until he was 12(we went on the day after his birthday) to get into a center that would see him. We went "J" that day. Finally a counselor that my son liked, and that listened to my conserrns. He was determined to help him and me navigate this process. This process has not been easy, the first referral we were sent to did not turn out as my son was too complex for her to diagnoix him so we kept looking. He spent days and hours to find a center that will help, and he found us the Tarnow Center. An thats where our new journey began.
Our family is normal suburban family on the outside, but we are a complex family unit learning to navigate our 12 years old sons recently diagnosed OCD(Instrusive thoughts), ADD, and high anxiety. As a whole we are a blended family of 6, My husband David, myself Michelle, step daughter Catherine, who no longer lives at home, step daughter Abigail, who no longer lives at home, and our twins Bryson, anId Dylan. I am just a mom creating this site, to give insite inour my world to hopefully give hope to other parents in our shoes who need to know they are not alone out there as I feel alot of times.
